Dorothy Jane Hilton Beckwith died on May 4, 2017, surrounded by loving family. She was 93 years old. Dorothy was born in Carthage, Missouri and moved East when World War II brought her together with her great love, Rev. Louis Beckwith. Together they built a home the was open and accepting , and a life that was filled with purpose and service and care for others. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis and their firstborn Thomas and is survived by sons David and his wife Linday of Toledo, OH, John and his wife Pat of Rockport, Peter and his wife Debbie of Arlington and Timothy and his wife Beth of Stoneham and daughter Anna and her husband Behrooz of Belmont, twelve grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren as wel as many who found a home in her house and her nurture and love from Dorothy who consider her their special Mother Bee. Dorothy was forgiving and accepting , always ready with encouraging word and an old song or a little gift. She made, documented and presented more than a hundred quilts and thousands of hacky-sacks, string games , buzz buttons and corcheted washcloths. She loved Psalm 23, and prayed it in good times as well as in distress. She said, "I thank God for a good and useful life." Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church, Oakland St., Medford; burial will be at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose, MA. Visiting hours will be held with the family in the Cincotti Funeral Home, 421 High St., Medford on Tuesday, May 9 from 4 - 7PM. In lieu of flowers , contributions should be made to the Medford First Baptist Church, Christian Camping Scholarships.
